Sept 9th, 2010, Los Angeles, CA – Radical Studios is proud to announce the formation of Radical Music, a division that will produce music content to be used in the film, television, video game, social media, mobile and record production space. The division creates original music to be used across all platforms, using in-house top level composers, and will represent catalogs containing some of the most well-known songs in the world.
Radical Music is headed by President Steve Lindsey, a renowned music publishing executive and founder of one of the first hip-hop music companies, Blotter Music. Formed in the 1990s, Blotter published music from writer-producer Mike Elizondo, Jonathan Rotem and Bruno Mars and was the home to hits such as 50 Cent’s In the Club, Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady, Kelly Clarkson’s Breakaway, Rihanna’s S.O.S. and dozens of others. He is also responsible for discovering artist, writer and producer Mars, writer of popular songs such as the current top ten hit Just the Way You Are, B.o.B’s Nothin’ On You and Travis McCoy’s Billionaire. Lindsey started his career as a writer and producer working with artists such as Leonard Cohen, Aaron Neville, Elton John and Marvin Gaye. Also working at Radical Music is Creative Director Wendi Williams, formerly the Associate Product Manager at MySpace, where she was responsible for placing MySpace Record’s music catalog in television and film. Williams started her career at EMI Music Publishing/Virgin Records.
Lindsey will operate Radical Music out of a state-of-the-art recording studio in the Radical compound in Los Angeles and has multiple resident composers already working on scoring television shows, commercials, film trailers and other projects, including John Paesano, who has composed for John Williams and Hans Zimmer.
Said Radical Studios president Barry Levine, “Steve is a master at recognizing and cultivating talent. We are lucky to have someone running Radical Music who understands our properties and vision.”
Mark Rafalowski, Radical’s Chief Operating Officer adds, “Steve Lindsey has been consistently prolific through all the changes in music over the last two decades. He recognizes talent and has the uncanny skills to mold that talent and create a musical solution, whether it be a hit song, a score, a soundtrack or a commercial jingle. We see Steve as a value across the board for Radical Music and his experience will benefit us as we build in film, television, games and interactive digital publishing for tablets and other mobile devices.”
Radical Studios, and its subsidiary company, Radical Publishing, are run by Levine and Executive Vice President Jesse Berger, who recently announced that they are developing OBLIVION, with Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) directing, through Disney. Radical has also sold EARP: SAINTS FOR SINNERS to DreamWorks with Sam Raimi attached to direct. Other film projects in development by Radical include LEGENDS: THE ENCHANTED, with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Imagine Entertainment, and THE LAST DAYS OF AMERICAN CRIME, with Sam Worthington attached to star and produce. Radical Publishing currently has 19 titles in circulation, which are published in 7 countries, and a catalog containing more than 70 properties and 500 characters.
Said Radical Music president Steve Lindsey, “I knew the moment I met Barry I wanted to be in business with him… it’s hard to find people as crazy as you are.”
