Review by Joe Milone
Wow! What a great mini series wrapped up with an awesome action packed final issue. Shrapnel: Hubris is the sequel to Radical’s critically acclaimed graphic novel, Shrapnel: Aristeia Rising. While I think that if I had read the original book it would have fleshed the characters out a bit more for me, it hardly takes away from this story at all.
I don’t want to go into specifics because I feel it might spoil the book, so I will talk about the project itself.
Somewhat of a cross between Starship Troopers and the Marines from Aliens, this intergalactic war story features some really great writing. The dialogue was well written and had a good flow. The narratives really helped convey the mood when there was no dialogue. Great stuff.
But what I really loved was the artwork. It is absolutely stunning. The vehicles looked awesome, the battle scenes are incredible and all the characters all looked very real. And the colors really set the mood nicely.
Check out the preview we posted yesterday for a little taste of Shrapnel.
I will say, though, that you should read it in its entirety from issue one, because while the recap is nice and catches you up to speed, you are really missing out not starting from issue one.
Shrapnel: Hubris # 3 recieves 4 out of 5 stars. The series as a whole recieves 5 out of 5 stars.
